This Build a Bioreactor Kit guides students through the design and manufacture of a bioreactor which can then be used to process milk or whey using an immobilised enzyme
The basis of the experiment is the hydrolysis of lactose found in milk
The reaction is monitored using diabetic urine testing strips which give an indication of the concentration of glucose present
Student worksheets give an outline of the required features of a bioreactor ‐ the rest is up to you!
The teacher's notes give background information and guide‐lines on how to use the kit
Detailed instructions of how to immobilise the enzyme, and ideas for further investigations are also included
The kit includes:Plastic Bottles
Filter Funnels.3‐Way Taps
T‐Connectors
Syringes
Silicone Tubing
Glass Tubing
Rubber Bings with 1 hole
Sieve
Gauze
Glucose Testing Strips
Lactase (B‐Galactosidase)
Calcium Chloride

In addition to the included materials, student groups will also need the following:200ml UHT milk
Distilled water
